One of the best preschools in the southwest Portland metro area, Sonshine Express
Preschool involves almost 150 children, has a staff of 12 committed Christians,
and reaches out to over 130 families each year.
Sonshine Express curriculum combines spiritual, social, and scholastic approaches
to early education. It exposes children to different scholastic concepts, yet mastery
is not expected. In preschool we learn that God made everything and He loves us
very much. Stories from the old and New Testaments are told throughout the year.
We view Christianity as a lifestyle as we incorporate the lessons in all areas of
the curriculum.
3 and 4 year old children: The program includes language arts (role-playing,
storytelling, music and coloring activities), physical education (to develop gross
motor skills and to just play), mathematics (age-appropriate), music, and art.
2 year old children: Meets one morning per week. The curriculum provides
2’s with socialization and builds skills and knowledge. The class is geared to facilitate
the transition from home to school. Children do not need to be potty-trained.
Pre-K: Meets four mornings per week. For children who need further maturation
time before entering kindergarten.
Kindergarten: An extended program from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The small class
size and “hands-on” learning provide just that right start for your child.
