Missions
“You will be witnesses to me, not only in Jerusalem, not only throughout Judea,
not only in Samaria, but to the very ends of the earth!” Acts 1:8
Missions and outreach are very important to the MPC congregation, both at home and
around the world. Support is given to several human service and evangelistic organizations,
whose activities range from serving the most needy and vulnerable members of society
to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Monthly Support is given to:
AWANA – monthly support helps provide uniforms, awards and
materials to churches around the world that are establishing new AWANA clubs for
children and their families.
Campus Crusade – has helped college students thrive in their faith
on secular campuses for over 50 years.
Compassion International – supports children in needy countries.
Our Youth Group sponsors Yunika, a 13 year old girl living in Indonesia, who works
hard to help support her family.
Friends of the Poor – Reaches the Banjaras (unreached people) with
the Gospel and help them start home churches in their villages in India.
Frontiers – supported GAP teams do relief and development work
Kurdistan and Iraq.
HCJB – reaches 90% of the earth’s surface by shortwave radio broadcasting
and on localized AM and FM bands, spreading the Gospel through all the corners of
the world.
Special Projects
Agros International – helps rural families in Central America and
Mexico attain economic self-sufficiency, own farmland, realize their God-given potential,
and pass these values on to future generations.
Love, INC (In the Name of Christ) – a network of 40 Clackamas County
churches and volunteers working to help the poor and needy through a clearinghouse
to connect people in need with people who want to help.
Mark 2 Mark Ministries – Provides a safe, Christian environment
for handicapped, disabled adults while helping them develop life skills at the Young
Life Wildhorse Canyon Camp in eastern Oregon.
Pamoja House – based in SW Portland, Pamoja (“togetherness” in
Swahili) reaches out to African immigrants and refugees in the area through ESL,
job coaching, citizenship classes, and driver’s ed.
Wash Jo Humanitarian Ministries – Kenya native, now Portland resident
Wash Jo gives his life to help his country’s children escape the ravages of AIDS
and poverty by raising money to sponsor AIDS-impacted orphans in residence schools.
These children would otherwise be homeless. |

International Partnership – focuses on reaching the leaders and
influencers of Ukrainian society for Christ, helping them grow spiritually and equipping
them to be lay leaders and planting new churches.
LEAD Global – mobilizes Christians in business, industry and government,
and coaches emerging African leaders in Christian character and job skills.
Mission Aviation Fellowship – Transports food, supplies, medical
personnel and patients, and missionaries to and from remote locations in the Democratic
Republic of Congo.
New Tribes – expands the reach of the Gospel through evangelism,
Christia n education and missionary training.
Novea Foundation – seeks to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with
the Jewish in Israel.
Pregnancy Resource Center – Helps women and teen girls in the Portland
area with unplanned pregnancies, meeting their needs and encouraging them to choose
life.
Rivergate Church – MPC’s “sister church”, in north Portland. MPC
helps Rivergate attain its goals of impacting the surrounding community, from monthly
support to food pantry and school supply drives.
SIM/USA – supports missionaries meeting physical and emotional
needs around the world, in their field of service.
Truth in Love – equips Christians to bring the true Gospel of Jesus
Christ to Mormon friends and family.
Tyrannus Hall – Assists European Christians in establishing dormitories
in which Christian young men are discipled in a caring atmosphere while they attend
colleges in Budapest, Hungary and Prague.
Young Life – Trains and disciples youth leaders, particularly those
in the Young Life Program. Local efforts minister to children with disabilities
through the Capernaum Program.
World Vision – child sponsorships impact desperately needy families
all over the world, helping them afford basics like clean water, food, and medicine.
Our Youth Group and Children’s Ministry sponsor two children, Chepchumba (Kenya)
and Diego (Chile).
